#4 I'm Back
I said I would be stepping back last week. I lied, I’m back now. It’s as if nothing happened.
This week, I brought my personal website back online and I plan on writing 100 blog posts in 100 days. I’ve written 5-ish posts ahead of publishing but I have more drafts in the pipeline. Besides that, I also started working on YouTube x RSS which is a tool that extracts RSS feeds from YouTube. The library is finished and I just need to make the front end. After that, I plan on adding a feed export feature. I could do mass import too but that would be really expensive.
I’ve also spent a lot of times converting images and videos. I’ve been working on this post on moving away from GIFs and while it was pretty much done, multiple times even, I realized that my comparisons were shallow. I could have relied on the default encoder settings, but that would result in wildly differing qualities. To address this, I discovered vmaf which tries to determine “subjective” video quality based on various data models of real life tests in different conditions. I have a script which makes a bunch of conversions across different encodings and settings to see how they do. It’ll be a while so stay tuned.
As for what I plan on doing this week, I hope to:
- Exclude my sites from Google’s FLoC,
- finish this youtube-x-rss project
- help a couple of open source projects and
- continue working on the post on not using GIFs.
Outside the scope of Farai’s Codelab, I hope to write a lot on my personal website.
