Conference – ‘The Shifting Ecologies of Photochemical Film in the Digital Era’

From 7-11 June 2021, the Department of Theatre, Film and Television Studies at Aberystwyth University, Wales, will be hosting the hybrid conference ‘The Shifting Ecologies of Photochemical Film in the Digital Era’. Organized by Kim Knowles, Marcy Saude and Christo Wallers, the conference explores how film operates alongside and in dialogue with technological and digital landscapes. Bringing together academic perspectives with artistic research and practice, the conference invites contributions in a variety of forms – including academic papers, screenings, panel discussions and artist talks – and on a broad range of topics from photochemical film aesthetics and politics to DIY exhibition and micro-cinemas. Confirmed contributors include artist Richard Tuohy (Daylesford, Australia), artist and co-founder of Filmwerkplaats Esther Urlus (Rotterdam, Netherlands), and Emmanuel Lefrant, artist and director of Light Cone Distribution (Paris, France). Proposals (300 words) can be submitted via e-mail to kik2@aber.ac.uk until 15 March 2021. More information on the conference here.
