Issue 5: Poem 'When You Find a Friend'
Poem: When You Find a Friend
This weekend you are getting a poem draft inspired by all of the love and kindness that I have experienced lately. We all have friends from different parts of our lives, and I am so grateful to have these lovely and generous people in my life.
There is a deep joy in sharing a kindred spirit with another person, and in being yourself and being loved as you are. I hope that you enjoy this poem that came from these feelings this week.
When You Find a Friend
By Coco Poley
I.
Entwined we dance: our kindred souls
Delight with each missive of love.
Our words play games as we entrance:
Creation bursts when we dream of.
II.
We write, we make, we play at myths,
We laugh, a raucous echoed sound,
We seize the world and wonder if,
We could turn our pain around.
III.
An energy shifts all around us,
It’s catching, this innate connection:
A feeling we have known before,
The richest kind of friend affection.
IV.
No matter which one of our stories,
Play out within our present time,
We need not search for one another,
For we will find us through our rhymes.
My world
This past week or so has been filled with friend hangouts, phone calls, writing, and creativity. I gave myself some holiday time in terms of job hunting, and that has been healthy mental and emotional space. I have not been writing a lot, but I have been writing almost every day. I'm still proud of myself for writing as much as I have this month.
It brings me great joy to write down my stories and to always be thinking of them, and what I want to add to the fantasy world I am creating. And I still have five whole days to write more for NaNoWriMo! Although I will absolutely continue this book afterward because the story will not be done by 50,000 words.
This week I did fun world-building work, so expect some cool magic animal info in the next newsletter!
Much love,
Coco
