Issue 1: Coco's Catchall
Welcome to Coco's Catchall!
Hi everyone and thank you so much for being here. I know you have all been part of my writing and blog journeys in some way, and I can't tell you what it means to have you here and know that there are people in the world that want to read my words.
In this first newsletter, I will share writing and creative updates with you and a little bit about why I started the newsletter.
Why you're reading this
I've always struggled to figure out which "platform" to use and what people will sign up for. I appreciate that everyone here who is reading this email has signed up for platforms to read my work. In a lot of cases, you may have signed up for more than one. But you know what's easier than any platform? Sending an email!
I follow a few different authors who send a newsletter every 2-4 weeks and it is awesome. Usually I enjoy reading about their reading, listening, and watching interests, or their thoughts on storytelling, or hear about their new works or public appearances. So here we are! I am taking some inspiration from that and I am just going to send an email directly to you, my wonderful and awesome subscribers!
Creative updates from September and October
I've been writing a few processing poems which you may have seen on my poetry Instagram. These include Key which is a poem about healing from divorce, and Crumbs which is a poem about being hungry for love.
I am preparing for National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) which is an annual November novel-writing challenge. I have a few friends that do it every year, and I always end up fired up by the idea of writing community, and everyone writing a novel together! I'll be working on my epic fantasy novel, currently called "Fear and Fire" but I do think that will change. More on that novel soon. I'll be introducing you to the two main characters who are siblings, Archer and Zefyra.
Something I love right now
I got to see the post-rock band Explosions in the Sky in Boston in September, and it was absolutely beautiful. Their new album "End" is a sweeping, emotional, soundtrack-like sound that is good for quiet work, cleaning up the house, or writing. I hope you listen and enjoy.
My world
I applied to join the Pickwick Independent Press this last week, so I am hoping that in the next few months I will be printing my own poetry books, comics, and magazines. I will have some free stuff when I'm learning that will be like, messed up prints, and then I'm sure some time next year I'll have some fun stuff to sell. More about my personal and genetic history with the printing press, in another newsletter soon!
Talk to you soon and I can't wait to share more poetry, short stories, ideas, music, art, and more with you.
Thank you again for joining me, and much love to you,
Coco
