Welcome to Cloud Bites #3! Hope your weeks have been good as it starts to get a little cooler here in new york city.
Rec 7: She-Ra and the Princess of Power (netflix) — She-Ra is an excellent animated show about a group of princesses who are tasked with defending their planet against an evil hoard. I've been thinking about solarpunk a lot recently but She-Ra is an example of lunarpunk! From Wikipedia:
Lunarpunk is often considered a dark opposite of solarpunk. It portrays humans as invasive instead of using technology to improve things.
...
Aesthetically, lunarpunk usually is presented with pinks and purples with an almost omnipresence of bioluminescent plants and especially mushrooms.
I love these kinds of aesthetics. I think they hold a lot of power when it comes to shaping our future ideals and motivations.
Rec 8: A Compass for the Politics of Collapse — I think it's useful to understand the full range of beliefs on a topic. This article helps categorize arguments and movements by their predictions about the future, which is a map that has been missing from my worldview until now. It also has some categories for the kind of aesthetics mentioned above!
Rec 9: Ezra Klein on Afghanistan — If you're bored or weary of politics please just ignore this one. I don't intend to make politics a main focus of this newsletter but I thought this was a particularly good article. It's rare we see humility and admissions of ignorance from journalists so it's worth highlighting when it happens.
All the best,
Charles
