Seventh Inning Stretch
On Monday evening at 7pm, I'll be in conversation with Emily Nemens, the editor of the Paris Review, in a virtual event hosted by the independent bookstore Politics & Prose. The link to view the event is here.
By a strange coincidence, Emily has also published a baseball novel this year, The Cactus League, which as the title suggests is set in Arizona during spring training. I say "a strange coincidence" because Harper's Magazine and The Paris Review have a longstanding history (and not just on the softball field). The Paris Review's legendary editor, George Plimpton, contributed frequently to Harper's over the years, while Harper's own legendary editor, Lewis Lapham, was recently the subject of a Paris Review "Art of Editing" interview. The two men also spent many hours in each other's presence at Elaine's over the years.
Well, they had Elaine's, and Emily and I have Crowdcast. I hope some of you will be able to join us, and I hope you'll share the link far and wide. https://www.crowdcast.io/e/beha-nemens
