Funding and Upcoming releases
We are so pleased to announce that we have received a National Lottery Project Grant from Arts Council England to support this year’s round of releases.
As part of the grant, we are commissioning eight artists to collaborate and produce the next four releases coming out on Cherche Encore:
- Lizzie Wilson aka Digital Selves and Joana Chicau will collaborate to imagine sonic worlds through live-coding and generative art. Lizzie will produce a four-track EP and Joana will respond with visual art.
- Sleepsang and Phoneutrian will produce a new EP called Biomes, inspired by how environments are shaped by human activity and scientific responses to climate change, and translated into six interrelated pieces of organic, textural music.
- Daniel S. Evans and Jasper Llewellyn will produce Meander, a release dedicated to improvisation that will come out in the form of music, film, writing, a cassette tape and a sound walk.
- Eye Measure and Rebekah Alero will collaborate to compose, develop and present a new release that draws inspiration from Terry Riley’s use of aleatoric music and Julius Eastman’s concept of organic music - gradual accumulation followed by gradual disintegration.
The commissions will be presented at two events, one in London at Cafe OTO and one in Sheffield.
With this grant we will also redesign our website, carry out an access audit and integrate self-hosting to welcome a new mix series.
We’d like to thank Interior Motive (Jennifer Lucy Allan and Al Cameron), who mentored us throughout the application process. We’re very excited to get started… more to come soon!
