[CE021] error topography by digital selves // Pre-order now!
Hello,
Back in February we announced a series of releases and projects for 2022 - all made possible thanks to a National Lottery Project Grant from Arts Council England.
We're excited to announce the first release of the year, a 4 track EP by digital selves (aka Lizzie Wilson) entitled error topography.
Stream the first single and pre-order the release on our Bandcamp: https://cherche-encore.bandcamp.com/album/error-topography
The EP will be released together with visual artwork by Joana Chicau, and will be premiered at Corsica Studios this coming Thursday 31/03/2022. Tickets are available here: https://ra.co/events/1499155.
We made a small trailer for the project, head over to our IG or Twitter to have a look. Otherwise here's a snap -
About the release
There's a few influences in error topography, the main and obvious one is digital selves' love for rave and dance music. You can hear it in her use of playful drums and emotional stabs. The EP was composed with live-coding tools such as Tidal Cycles and so you can also hear a generative aspect in the tracks. The EP tries to create an imaginary sonic world that one can explore, almost as if sounds - and the code under those sounds - were laid out as a map.
To accompany the release, digital selves wrote a short text:
Abstraction is no longer the map, simulation no longer the territory. Borge’s cartographers can draw a map so detailed it can cover the territory exactly. The cartographers are in the world of the hyper real, we are there with them.
It is the map that precedes the territory - precession of simulacra - that generates the territory.
I am looking out at white snow in a hallucinatory fog. I reach out to touch it and it disappears. Mirrors become viscous surfaces, the reflective becomes objective. It is not reality but the subject dissolving.
