#2: Supply Lines and Modding
First off, welcome to all the new subscribers! There was a small uptick after Alpha Beta Gamer covered the game last month, and since then the newsletter has been slowly gaining steam! If you're just joining and missed the first newsletter, you can view it in the archives here.
Blog Post Review
A stated goal of mine in 2019 was to start more regularly posting about Cantata on the new site, and I'm happy to say that since the last newsletter I've put up two chunky posts about the design and mechanics of Cantata:
Cantata 101: Supply + Supply Lines
For the first entry in Cantata 101, we briefly talked about Commanding Officers. Though they vary in how they are deployed on a battlefield, a Commanding Officer is essentially the leader of your army in any given round of the game.
For the second entry in Cantata 101, I wanted to focus not on who or what leads a battle, but instead, what gives that battle structure, what provides the backbone of your army: Supply.
Modding 101: Interactables and Aspects
Just as "Cantata 101" is meant to be an introduction to the general mechanics and gameplay of Cantata, I started up a new series call "Modding 101" that is meant to introduce you to the how/why of modding in Cantata.
To start, I wanted to talk about the core idea in Cantata of an "Interactable" — basically anything on the map that you can interact with. Interactables are implemented in the game in such a way that it allows anybody to create their own, no coding required!
Cantata at GDC!
Lastly, Cantata will be coming to GDC again! If you're interested in meeting up, feel free to reply to this email and I'd be happy to meet you and talk Cantata, Strategy Games, and everything in between!
With that, so ends another edition of the Cantata newsletter! Thanks to everyone for subscribing to this list, it means a lot to me and the team that you're interested in the game! As a reminder I'd love for you all to join the Cantata forums so we can all meet each other and talk about the game!
