Sometimes you hear a band and you wonder what genre of music they really fall into. Every Noise at Once is here to help. I spent more time than I’d like to admit clicking on genre’s like “grave wave” and typing band names into the search and seeing where they lead. Pretty much everything points to Spotify so you can take the music you discover and add it to your listening rotation.

In the last two weeks I’ve discovered two new websites I’ve enjoyed quite a lot. Menswear writer, David Coggins has a new blog, The Contender which led me to another, the Please Advise column, Ask Chris Black:. With my love for sites like The Wirecutter and America’s Test Kitchen, I was surprised that I’d never heard of The Strategist but I am finding their reviews to be quite helpful, if a little more swayed by what’s cool now, even if it isn’t the best thing out there, which brings me back to Ask Chris Black. It’s like asking your coolest friend about what they’re into lately and getting some great tips on the finer things you can spend your money on.

I grew up playing every Tony Hawk Pro Skater game that came out. I still remember the joy of renting a Playstation from Blockbuster video the day before my parent’s annual Christmas party and then playing it all day (and keeping the Playstation running to save our progress since we didn’t have a 256 MB(!) memory card to save our game) while my parents prepared for and threw a party. Tony Hawk did things with a skateboard in real life that seemed possible only in a video game. Now north of fifty years old, Tony Hawk is still shredding skate parks and water parks, and amazingly, still getting up from some pretty gnarly falls.

With the 100º+ temperatures in Austin lately, sometimes the best thing you can do is hide inside a cool, dark movie theater. I cannot recommend seeing Maiden enough. It is a fantastic story I knew nothing about, and the archival footage from the race is absolutely astounding. Get out of the heat and go see this movie!
I would love to hear from you if you enjoyed any of these links, or if you have something you think I should add to my collection, feel free to reply to this email!
