I sat behind a drum set for the first time in more than two years this weekend. I banged out the first part to a song I know well, but missed some notes, which I’ll chalk up to being rusty and not having the kit set up the way I normally play it. I wish I could have remembered how to play a Purdie Shuffle because it’s one of the funkiest grooves out there. Keep watching as he builds and builds on this beat (and sing “Babylon sisters shake it“) in your head). What I never learned how to do was dance with a drum set. Two completely different drummers, each with their own sound.

I used to think I was the strangest person in the world but then I thought there are so many people in the world, there must be someone just like me who feels bizarre and flawed in the same ways I do. I would imagine her, and imagine that she must be out there thinking of me too. Well, I hope that if you are out there and read this and know that, yes, it’s true I’m here, and I’m just as strange as you.
h/t Jason Kottke and Quote Investigator. I needed this.

This is exactly the kind of NYC street style I can get behind.

I had no idea that every time I make the drive from Austin to Houston (mostly to see art exhibits at the MFAH) I’m driving this massive landscaped signature that is visible from space. While this is a stereotypically Texan gesture, it has also been quite helpful for NASA on more than one occasion.

If you want something a little different to drink this summer:
Monte Carlo
2.5 oz Bourbon
1.5 oz Benedictine (it’s probably hidden near the bottom of the cognac shelves)
Garnish with a lemon twistIf you like your drinks spicy, add 2 dashes Angostura bitters and 2 dashes Tabasco
Frisco
Same as a Monte Carlo but “with a shit load of lemon twists. At least 3 to 5 but peel the whole lemon if you want.”Recipes courtesy the wonderful bartenders at Drink, Boston.
If you have something you think I should add to my collection of internet ephemera, write me by replying to this email.
