jan 9 2022 - coat rustling crunch
hey you slush-star,
i have little sense of the days lately but the day after it just snowed here in NYC, i remembered last winter's slushee reveling in snow walking. my body's been heavy and lethargic but i dragged her outdoors with the hopes of feeling the crunch beneath my boots. still the best feeling! even tho my footsies froze in my boots in the barely 2 inches of snow within minutes. i step stepped for a short while and then went back indoors
some personal news, from my agèd and ever-aging hips: it is now winter 👁👄👁

now the snow is mostly gone!
in those minutes i was in it tho, i took these two photos—one facing the almost first quarter moon and the other facing 💁🏻♀️me 💁🏻♀️
[ID: L : me in front of sky that appears nearly white spliced w/ photo R of tree outlines and darker blue sky and faint first quarter moon]
when the poetry project's 48th new years marathon moved online, i was fully prepared to set/light design a patch of my home office/living room (35 min) and do my own hair/makeup/wardrobe (25min) for a live virtual performance.
but then i found this clip on my phone and liked the little winter outfit i was already wearing. where i had set/lighted/no-make-upped myself that day? also nice! so i chose instead to play on my little phone and little computer and do a quick edit and voiceover (30min) and send in a recording instead. yay for reducing effort!! time is money and where's that stimmee joe???
wait… ugh,,,,,,,, am i actually .. making (ugh) a short dance.. film rn?? ??! !!?

i considered sharing the whopping 2:51 clip with you all but that edition of public art practice already feels dated. when i make work for a specific time and place, the performance is in the moment (the live stream) and now that it's over, it's in the archives!
i did splice a 27-sec clip from that 2:51 clip (which itself was trimmed from a 9:59 clip) for u that in this context, feels ⏳timeless ⏳
for all this writing i've done about being in my puny body (stay tuned: on literally swooning in feminine overwhelm), all my bemoaning of #freelanceflailing, let's cut the verbage (jk i'll never) and just Dance and Flail !!
⚗️ welcome to my laboratory, listen for the lab coat rustling noises!! ⚗️
don't ask me how long it takes me to compile a slushee, i'll never tell, but yes, it's shorter than you think 💁🏻♀️⏳ ⚗️
💁🏻♀️⏳ ⚗️ bn
ps. talked to Jean Chen Ho in BOMB Magazine re; her new book Fiona and Jane for the first #bennyboosbookclub of 2022 !
pps. guess which most frequently used slushee word does not appear in this edition!? guess!!! <3
ppps. smol sub-crit: this oppressively heterosexual desperately millennial novel I'm listening to? so good actually, the British narrator gets an A+, and no it's not sally rooney
pppps. also, from the last slushee, if u can figure out the mechanics of how this screenshot was created, then 4 slushes for u slush-star, u go slush-star!
