[A Pleasurable Headache] a little bit of everything all of the time
Updates
I've been beavering away at another short. At this point, I think it's missing something. Most of my projects usually come about when two previously inert ideas slam into each other, producing something wholly new. I'm not sure that has happened at this point for this new story and as a result it's not it's best self. Yet.
I've also been doing edits for She #2 for Ryan K Lindsay. It's been a blast to dive back into that world and that character and see where Ryan is taking her next.

Peer Review Request: Depression
https://astralcodexten.substack.com/p/peer-review-request-depression
An extremely thorough deep dive on the concept of depression, best practices and potential solutions. Your mileage may vary, but there was some excellent starting points and food for thought here.
"I once read an account by someone who said their mood was correlated with how many rooms they had been in that day. If they spent the whole day in their bedroom, by the end of the day they’d feel terrible. If they made it to their kitchen, they’d feel a little better. The local cafe, better still. They seemed to feel some direct treatment effect from “novelty”, even the novelty of a different room in their house. I have never forgotten this and it strikes me as borne out by my own experience and that of my patients."
Along the same lines comes this piece on 'How to Sleep Better' over at The New York Times.

Why Bo Burnham, Jenna Marbles, And Shane Dawson All Logged Off
https://www.buzzfeednews.com/article/scaachikoul/bo-burnham-inside-netflix-special-youtube-creators
If you haven't already, I suggest giving Bo Burnham's new Netflix special Inside a watch. It's a funny, haunting and scathing look at life in the pandemic and being 'very online'. The above article from Buzfeed News looks at a trio of celebrities who grew up online and how that has affected and shaped their subsequent careers.
A good companion piece is Leah Schnelbach's over at Tor.com, comparing one of Burnham's latest creations to some of Ray Bradbury's work.

https://aeon.co/essays/aliens-science-and-speculation-in-the-wake-of-oumuamua
This is an extremely interesting piece over at Aeon about how science treats a phenomena when hard data is scarce. This leads to speculation and disagreement. The piece uses the lens of the splinter of rock, Oumuamua, that hurtled through out solar system not too long ago and the various theories as to its origin.

The Complete List of Marxist, Un-American, Anti-White Things (According to White People)
https://www.theroot.com/the-complete-list-of-marxist-un-american-anti-white-t-1847105169
Finally, Michael Harriot over at The Roots, looks at the term 'Marxist' and 'Communist' and how these terms were used by the powers that be to condemn black movements throughout American history.
"Whenever I am trying to decide whether or not a particular movement, policy or person benefits Black America, I wait and see what white people think. While that might sound racist, there has never been a movement, policy or person that benefitted Black America who was simultaneously embraced by white America. In this country, a stance against the trauma-inducing brickbat of whiteness is perceived as a stance against America. And anyone who disagrees can feel free to prove me wrong. Name one person who fought for Black liberation who white people agreed with."

I'm off to try and scrub that video of Matt Hancock from my brain forever. See you in two!
