We're Making Some Changes π»
Henlo~
If you've been receiving (occasional) emails from me previously, then you can see this email looks different!
Change is happening on our back end! Here is what you can expect:
A cleaner, more minimal version of our words in your inbox. After a lot of back and forth, I decided the words are more important than how it looks - especially because our inboxes are cluttered enough with digital promos and other newsletters that we barely have attention for much. This, I have decided, would be a good way to experiment and see if you have a better experience connecting with the content. Hit reply and let me know your thoughts now or at any point later when you may thoughts to share about this new format.
Reducing friction to help me communicate better. I have been busy Marie Kondo-ing different aspects of my life slowly but surely. I've been reading The Organized Mind: Thinking Straight in the Age of Information Overload by Daniel J. Levitin lately.
There was one thought that hit me in the face like a pile of bricks smashing into me at full speed. He says that the computer has become the equivalent of our kitchen junk drawer. I was appalled and caught off guard by this realization. It's definitely true for me. I have a million apps that give me so many options to do one thing; I exaggerate - but you get the point. But this bloat, I am now realizing, is slowing me down and causing me some problems: decision paralysis and a lot of my limited executive functioning brain juice (spoons, for those of you who use that term too).
I previously sent my emails from Mailchimp (which is nice), but involves a multi-step process of me composing my thoughts on Notion, transferring and aligning/ designing that content in Mailchimp, and then sending it out. Now, I get to cut out the design part and save spoons there. I am now trying Buttondown - and so far only good things to say. Easy set up (under 15 minutes) and I'm ready to rock & roll. I also like that this software is built and run by a hooman who deeply cares about this product. I imagine my creative practice to be supported and made sustainable by individuals who care about the makers & their passions. And I'm slowly beginning to make that switch in small ways where I can champion the same values through my actions too. π±
More frequent and/or higher quality content. I have a confession to make. I have pages and pages of notes I write that I wish I could share - but I'm frequently hit with fear paralysis π° and voices in my head that get to me before I hit send. A sneaky thing I've been doing to trick myself into cutting down on how much time it takes for me to respond to do a task where I experience this paralysis. And I've firsthand witnessed how I am able to respond, say yes to an opportunity, or complete something before I self-sabotage myself... all while my emotional brain is still processing before responding. Little joys when I'm able to do these sneak attacks on myself. π€
I paw-mise to not send you junk or spam unless it's trash memes that make us laugh. π¬ But seriously though, I value your time and attention - thank you for taking the time to read through my emails. As always, there is no rush in ever having to keep up with the pace or the content of these emails. They are found in the archive for you to read at a pace that you are comfortable with.
Until next time friends, Nya has exciting mews to share soonly.
Toodles~
