📬 VueBLR—January Newsletter 🎆
Hola folks! 👋
Before we get down to business, we'd like to wish you all a very happy new year! 🥳🎆
We hope you all had a great 2019 and a memorable decade. Sure, it's never all rosy but pat yourself on the back for having made through all the difficult bits, no matter how small or large they were. We're glad to have you in our community and we hope you'll join us as we embark on our journey for this new year and for the next decade. We just can't wait and we hope you feel the same!
If you haven't learnt Vue.js yet, make that a part of your new year's resolution—and I bet you, it's the easiest one. Vue.js is just so plain simple to learn and a delight to use. Don't believe me—believe in the numbers: 155K stars on GitHub, over a million weekly downloads on NPM and over a million weekly active Vue.js DevTools users which is just bananas! 🤯 If anything, Vue is going to get bigger and better than ever and Vue 3 is on the way. Feeling overwhelmed? Don't worry, we're committed to help you upto speed with Vue.js and to ensure you stay up-to-date via our talks, workshops, events, this newsletter and even more.
And we're kicking off 2020 with a bang! 💥

🕰 Past Meetup: #21 Endgame
We had our 21st meetup at Madiwala hosted by our good friends at HackerRank and we had three amazing talks. First-up, we had our own Rahul Kadyan who drilled into the finer details of the Vue 3 composition API and had a nice demo to get rid of all the FUD surrounding it. Next up, we had Karthick Ramachandran who showed off Gridsome—a fantastic framework for building fast, static websites with the power of GraphQL and Vue.js. And last, but certainly not the least, we had Musthaq Ahamad who demonstrated the power of visualizations on the web with the library Deck.gl and some cool demos that integrated Vue.js and Deck.gl for some awesome visualizations. Whew! That was a blast and certainly felt like we made our own Endgame for 2019! 🔥
Missed all the fun? Don't worry, we have all the talks recorded and available for viewing on YouTube:
📺 Head first into composition API by Rahul Kadyan
📺 Blazing fast static sites with GraphQL and Vue by Karthick Ramachandran
📺 Building high-performance geospatial analytics tools using Vue & Deck.gl by Musthaq Ahamad
🌍 From the Community
- State of JavaScript 2019 results are out!—And unsurprisingly, we see a strong growth and love for the Vue.js ecosystem. Though, I'm sure we'll get to #1 some day (looking at you, React). Besides this, we see growth for lightweight frameworks like Svelte, TypeScript taking the crown and more interesting numbers and beautiful visualizations. Do check it out!
- Talks from VueConf Toronto 2019—are starting to pop-up. Evan You talked about the guiding principles for designing and building Vue 3 which is a must watch. There are plenty of other interesting talks from the Vue core team and community members as well so binge them on a weekend!
- Fragments in Vue.js—Vue doesn't have support for fragments natively unlike React (yet!) but there's a library out there that can dull your frustrations. This article talks about how fragments can avoid div-itis and how this community library can help with that.
- vueuse—is a collection of functions that complement the Vue Composition API. There are tons of functions that ranges from tapping into DOM events such as mouse, resize all the way to abstractions over browser APIs such as storage and clipboard.
- MEVN CLI—is a project that allows you to quickly bootstrap full-stack applications that utilize the Mongo+Express+Vue+Node stack and has some interesting knobs you can adjust to generate different project templates. Check it out and maybe contribute new configurations as well!
