Typopo newsletter #2: 2021 updates
Hi Typopo subscriber! 👋
It’s been a year since I’ve sent my previous newsletter so I’d like to take this opportunity to summarize the important updates of 2021. There weren’t so many, so this will be a short newsletter.
⚡️ Major 2021 update: Better fixing of double/single quotes
One of my goals for 2021 was to refactor the modules that fix double quotes and single quotes. I piled up a couple of edge cases over the years and finally took the courage to untangle that old spaghetti code.
As a result, I wrote ~700 new tests to specify use cases when double quotes are fixed.
For details, take a look at 2.5.0 release notes.
✨ New feature for VS Code extension
Markdown syntax uses grave accents to identify ``code blocks``. In a non-markdown context, this may seem an incorrect quotation.
For the Typopo library, I’ve added a new configuration option to keep Markdown code blocks in your Markdown files:
keepMarkdownCodeBlocks: true
when you want to keep Markdown code blocks in your Markdown fileskeepMarkdownCodeBlocks: false
want to fix grave accents (’) in generic texts to single quotes
When using VS Code extension, the config is automatically set as true
, so that your code blocks won’t get fixed to quotes. You can adjust the behavior in the extension’s settings.
📅 What’s next?
I don’t have any significant plans for 2022. There is always a backlog of small things I’d like to improve, but since I don’t store any texts that users are fixing, I don’t know what would be a valuable improvement. If you find anything you’d like Typopo to fix for you, I’d love to hear your feedback!
🙏 Would you like to help Typopo?
If you’d like to support Typopo, here are a couple of things you can do:
- If you use VS Code extension, give it some stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
- If you’d like to buy me a coffee, I will turn it into a code. ☕
Thanks for being a loyal subscriber, have a great New Year!
Cheers,
