What's New at SeumasU December 2021
Welcome, Thanks, News
Hello and welcome all to the slightly revamped, slightly less irregular newsletter for students, alumni, and friends of SeumasU aka The Patrologist.
If you previously signed up for this newsletter because you were after a vague assortment of semi-professional Seumas-related news, I'm taking this newsletter in a new, courses-teaching with a side of research direction. Feel free to unsubscribe, my feelings won't be hurt.
For everyone else, thanks. Thanks especially to all my students - it means a lot to me that you took the chance to work on your Greek or Latin with me, and means incredibly much to me that some of you keep coming back term after term. This has been a full calendar year in which teaching ancient living languages online has been my full time job, made possible by you all.
Holidays
Classes for this term wrap up in just over a week. There is a long break until the next round of classes start at the end of January. Mostly because it's the summer holidays here and I need (i) time off, (ii) to be available for parenting. I'll also be spending some time reading and writing.
As for you, I would really commend it as a time to consolidate and review what you've been working on so far. And the single most effective thing you can do is spend time re-reading. There's lots of other things one can do, of course, but simply re-reading texts is my number 1 pick for bang-for-buck consolidation.
Seminar
In January I'm offering a one-off 'intensive' seminar called "Let's Talk Greek". It's more geared towards teachers and others, and to be honest if you've been in my classes you know the core of my methods. However, you are more than welcome to sign up, or spread the word. The seminar will involve explicit instruction, and then small group practice, on using Q&A in Greek to work with texts in a conversational way, as well as nailing down the fundamentals of talking about Greek grammar in Greek.
2022 Classes
The sign-up pages are now live for 2022 term 1. I've tried to provide the usual lively mix of beginner to advanced classes, across a range of topics and texts. Hopefully something on that menu tickles your appetite. If you have any questions about individual courses or what might be best for you, please get in touch and I'll be happy to share my thoughts.
Merch
Lastly, if I haven't tactlessly bombarded you yet, there is some beautiful SeumasU merch now available, with much thanks to our excellent designer Mike Saridakis. Pick up your hoodies, shirts, caps, and other assorted items today.
Okay, that's all for me. Let's finish this year well, and on to greater things next year!
