Month 17 Highlights
Somehow, it’s the 24th of the month again, and the 17th month of Toby’s life. I think we can just say she’s a year and a half old now, until she’s “almost two.”
We are currently in Singapore, but I’m going to withhold the second installment of trip updates until we’re back home. For now, in no particular order, here are some changes that show me and Szuyin how Toby has grown in the last month.
Toby has been developing her “Hello!” It started off as a “hey-doh,” but she’s getting better all the time. And she gets lots of practice as we walk around KL and Singapore. I’m stoked to take her around our usual stops back home, because I’ve been telling her to say hello to folks and she’ll be able to surprise them by actually doing it!
Our toddler is also learning to run! When she picks up the pace, she tucks her chin, locks her right elbow, and flaps her left arm loose. When chased, she also yells.
Toby will reliably answer our questions. Although we mostly ask her yes/no questions and get “no” in response.
Big T napped on a floor mattress at her great-aunt’s house. She also showed some interest in climbing (into) her pack-and-play crib. Szuyin and I have talked about graduating her to a mattress on the floor after her crib, and it may be time to enact that plan when we get home.
We’ve gotten a couple opportunities to swim this month, and Toby is showing us some strong doggie-paddle kicks while we hold her. I’m excited to see her propel herself on her own someday - she seems to be a natural. I guess we’ll have to see if she’s big enough for any floaties or vests!
That’s all for now! Talk to you again in about a week.
