Month 14 Highlights
We made it to another month, and it was a busy one in terms of milestones and development. Here are the big storylines from Month 14!

As previously noted, Toby is walking! I can understand why people often describe it as a flip of a switch, but writing this now in the thick of Toby’s transition to two feet, I also appreciate the effort she’s putting in on this new skill. She takes fewer falls and extends her range every day.
We are teething… again. A third tooth has joined the bottom row, and she is a constant drool machine. Toby had some not-silent nights this month before we recognized what was going on and resumed a Tylenol regimen before bed. I think she’s handling this round better, since it’s not a completely new sensation.
Toby is taking swim lessons at a nice protected beach. We (her parents) get to hang out in the water and the instructor helps her get used to floating, kicking, and having her head under the water. She really loves being in the water, and is definitely the most vocal and animated of the kids in the group. It’s interesting to see how she’s learning to swim and walk during the same set of weeks.
Oh, we’re done with bottles. I think I mentioned that as on the horizon last month, and it was like the next day she just didn’t care about bottles anymore. Very easy, thank you, Toby. We also put away the high chair and moved her on to a booster seat with plates and bowls at the counter.
The cats are displaying a lot more patience with Toby lately. She has gotten more gentle and has better control over her affection for them, but it’s also clear that they’re more willing to put up with her now than they were a month ago. Maybe when she popped up onto her feet, it became easier for them to clock her as a human companion.
Toby can flip light switches now, which is a nice pay-off from Szuyin’s nightly lessons at bedtime. She has also displayed much better motor control with her toys. Not much to write home about, but I’ll do it anyway.
