Last of the Summer Wires:: 05 – When in Tywyn do as I do...
LAST OF THE SUMMER WIRES
Fiona Cullinan
30 September 2021
Tywyn Beach
Steps: 2,500
The weather has been too appalling to walk in but vivacious nonetheless.
When in Tywyn, do as I do – find yourself a friendly haiku (nod to Paul Simon). I haven't written a haiku since school but it seemed a good rainy day activity. (And I used to have a thing for Basho when I was younger and heartbroken.)
I did get in a single walk around the block against 30mph winds for inspiration and wrote these off the back of it – and quite surprised myself.
A stormy seafront
Warm drivers park at the edge
Front row to the storm
*
Arthritic black dog
Pauses, asks 'Why are we here?'
Sorrowful, walks on
*
A crab with one leg
Crouching under the boardwalk
Broken by the sea
Fish scales and algae
Agitated by wild waves
Sea cappuccino
*[see video link below]
Rain falling sideways
Sky and sea battle the sun
A vista appears
*
Silver-haired couple
Blue and pink matching raincoats
Walk into autumn
*
Wish you were here,
Fiona
One-minute video: Sea foam blowing in the wind is kinda cool
PS. I hope you've have enjoyed this week of walk postcards. I'll send one final wrap email and then it's goodbye! Or is it?
