Dollar Store Book Reviews Issue 1 -- Devils, Dictionary, & Hot Dogs
Welcome to Dollar Store Book Reviews!
Quirky Reads and they're sold Dirt Cheap
More than a year ago, the used book store in my town closed down. That left fourteen miles and a psychologically significant river between me and the ability to browse a proper bookstore. This was a problem--here's where I assure you that while I am an avid library patron, I get a very specific joy from looking at books which I could own--as I really like buying books.
As all creatively under-fulfilled, middle-aged white guys, I went searching for the solution at the dollar store. Because if you are lucky, there's a book section at the dollar store and they will sell their books for a dollar (plus tax). And once you've read some of these books, you can then write reviews about them on the Internet ([https://www.dollarstorebookreviews.com])
Is this a silly thing to do? Sure, but just because it's silly doesn't mean that it's not making me a better reader. The book section at a dollar store is a random sample of books published recently. Every time I purchase a dollar store book, it's nearly like I'm buying based upon a randomized ISBN which as a reader does give me the freedom to look at and consider that book's value differently then when I read a book by an author whose work I've already enjoyed.
The randomization also has exposed to me to books that I'd probably never had picked up and even when those books aren't amazing and life changing, I've rarely found myself regretting the money and time that I've spend on owning and reading those books.
So here are links to some reviews of books I bought at the dollar store. I've given you very brief descriptions of plots of the books in the boy meets girl format.
