Let’s Talk about the New iPad Pro

April 20th, 2021, a day that will live in infamy. No, not really, but Apple did announce new iPad Pro’s. I’m sure everyone reading this is very well aware of them. Now that we’ve had some distance from the actual event I wanted to take a minute to go over the major upgrades to this iPad and how they could effect iPad Pro users.

Updated Daily Journal Shortcut

This one might be cheating. My daily journal shortcut maybe my most downloaded shortcut judging from the response. When I originally made it I had all these different functions built into it. While that was great at the time it seems like it breaks with every major update. So I scaled the shortcut down to just it’s core functions. Hopefully this will work better in the future.

I still use this shortcut everyday to kick start my day. I like the questions as a way to assess how things are going. The tasks list is a good way to see what you need to do for the day. Then the journaling part is great for getting all your ideas and thoughts out of your head.

Shortcut - Music Player

I completely rewrote all of my Apple Music based shortcuts into one shortcut. I did this for a few reasons.

One I had a ton of three to five action music shortcuts that did almost the same thing. I realized I could easily put all of that into one place and make it work a lot better.

The iPad vs. The Mac

I made a video earlier this month about how I bought a Mac Mini. This wasn’t to replace my iPad or even be a computer I used everyday. I bought this to be a server. A computer I can use to store files and run automations from. BUT I am a nerd and was curious to see how this would work for an everyday computer. Before I go any further I want to just say the iPad is still my main computer, this experiment didn’t change that. No reason to scream at me and say you are unsubscribing. Yes, this did unfortunately happen when I made that video.

There are some things I do enjoy about the Mac. For one how great it is to let stuff run in the background. For things like file transfers and uploads to YouTube I have to just let my iPad be. Which means I can’t use it for work while it’s doing those tasks.

2020 Sucked, but the Tech Didn’t

There was a lot of crappy things that happened in 2020, but the tech that came out of it wasn’t a part of that.

Why I Still Work From an iPad

With the new M1 Macs out I have gotten a lot of questions as to why I still work from the iPad. The new Macs are faster, have longer battery, and they can even run iOS and iPadOS apps. But they don’t quite capture the magic of the iPad for me.

I recently dusted off my day job issued MacBook Air (I believe this is the 2019 version). I put Big Sur on it and I felt nothing. I ran back to my iPad happy to be using my favorite computer again. Every time I try going back to the Mac I’m just not interested. I don’t think there is any one reason as to why.

New Device Month

It’s October, but for others it’s known as Techtober. Usually this starts in September with Techtember and the announcement of a new iPhone. This year is a bit different for obvious reasons. Apple did have a couple of announcements in September followed by a second event in October.
