Book & Paper Arts Calendar Updates - May 25, 2020
Hello everybody,
I hope that wherever you are and whatever number of days you are on a circuit breaker, movement control order, shelter-in-place, safer at home order, but seriously let's just call it a lockdown, that this email finds you safe and well and in good spirits. Today is Blursday, right?
If you are like me and still typing on a physical keyboard and you have either [Ctrl] or [Cmd] keys (the brackets make it look more like a key but I can see how it may be confusing) the following key sequence will recover what you may have accidentally deleted. Hold down the Ctrl or Cmd key then press Z. That is your UNDO function. That has become my most favorite way to recover things I have deleted or even pasted over. I believe I can go back 5 - 10 mistakes! Please test on your laptop/desktop first some programs may only allow you to un-delete once. Hope this helps you! BTW - I also love the UN-du adhesive remover (please use in a well ventilated area!) that allows me to glue with abandon!
Working from home? Attending more ZOOM meetings? The American Optometric Association has a "20-20-20" rule - take a 20-second break every 20 minutes to look at something 20 feet in the distance. This will allow your eyes to blink and relax. There are many apps available to help remind you to follow this rule. Second, use lubricating preservative-free eye drops before extended computer use. This will reinforce the body's natural tears and keep the eye's surface hydrated. But, avoid those "get-the-red-out" drops. Don't forget to blink! If you have never used Zoom before, here's a helpful video.
So very sad to hear about Crane Stationery closing. Every time I would visit a stationery store (are there any more? sigh!) I would always gravitate towards the Crane area to marvel at the amazing paper and products. This reminds me of another mall staple that closed it's stores earlier this year - Papyrus (along with American Greetings and Carlton Card). They were my go to when I didn't have the energy to make cards. Luckily their cards are still available at other retailers like Target.
Something to look forward to - I have been following Dario Zeruto for a few years now and thought that I would have to fly to Italy or Spain to take one of his workshops. He now has them online but only in Spanish and Italian. He will have English workshops beginning July. And for €35 or about US$38. I am looking forward to July!
Hope y'all are staying safe and well - Jade

Started by Sarah Mottaghinejad of Editions.Studio in Seattle, WA, each month, a theme will be chosen and participants will create a book incorporating that theme. Bookbinders are encouraged to share their process and final books on Instagram using the tag #areyoubookenough (to look at specific theme look for #areyoubookenough_theme, for example, #areyoubookenough_machine). Sign up to be notified of the latest theme or check out the challenge here.

Jane LaFazio created a video showing her husband and herself drawing flowers in their back patio garden with a cup of coffee after breakfast. She then cut out the flowers and made a wreath. Loved the stitching that gave the piece some subtle dimension. The treat for me was the view of her garden with the purple flowers that grabbed you by the eye with their vibrancy and you could just about smell the beautiful dark pink and yellow roses. Thank you, Jane, for sharing your morning routine with us!
