Issue 24 Surrender
500 Words is a publication of FutureX.Studio.
After a couple of years of writing for six days a week, I finished writing my novel Surrender last Friday. There were times, when working on it, I would have trouble with reentry to this world. I’d be supposed to be cooking or doing the dishes or something, and I’d still be walking around in 2050, mapping out overheated cities with their streets underwater, or trying to guess what an artificial intelligence might sound like if it had a personality wrapped around it.
My usual response, when interrupted out of these thoughts, was “Huh?” It always took me a moment to bounce back the 30 years to land here again.
The next step for Surrender is to send it around to early readers. We need to know if I went too deeply into a scene, didn’t fill in a character enough, or missed a storyline. The only way to do that is to get out of my head and offer the world of the book to some generous people who like to read.
Maybe you?
I’m sending out digital versions (PDFs and e-reader versions) and some print versions for readers to explore with me. There’s a reader guide so you can get a sense of the story before you decide you want to be an early reader. We’ll take the month of November to do a read through, maybe go into the beginning of December, and then I will start rewriting through December and early January. I’m aiming for publication first quarter next year.
If you would like an advance review copy of the book, just hit reply to this email and let me know. I’m grateful for all feedback and viewpoints.
Meanwhile, before the book comes out, I’m planning to put out another short form podcast series for your entertainment. More about that in the next 500 Words.
Thanks,
Lee
