Private is the New Default
Hi all,
As I crunch through how people are using StepList, one theme outshines all the others: people want private lists. Despite being buried behind a dropdown, users overwhelmingly activated their lists privately.
As a result, I’ve made private the new default and am allowing free users to create unlimited private lists.
This change also lets us simplify the act of publishing a list. Starting today, any list with at least one step can be performed. No need for “activation”!
If you wish to share a list with the world just click “Publish” in the “Edit” menu

I continue to enjoy seeing the lists you all create. This month I’ve seen lists for:
Managing a social media presence
Code review
Opening tasks for a café
Employee onboarding
Making sure everything is in the diaper bag
Boy, I could’ve used that last list countless times.
This summer I’m going to work on list creation UX (deleting steps is still too hard) and start beta testing a native iOS app. Let me know if there are any features or fixes you’d like to see; I’d love to add them to the queue.
Finally, while visiting the aircraft carrier parked at the end of our city, I spotted a repeatable checklist in the wild: operational instructions for an aircraft catapult.

In case you need to fling a plane or two off your boat, I’ve posted the pre-operation and operation procedures on StepList.
Happy Summer,
Drew
